School Security

Schools are one of the most important places to keep safe and secure. They unfortunately tend to be a main target for those that want to cause turbulence in society, and doing everything we can to protect them and the children inside, should be a priority. It doesn’t matter the location of the school or the demographic of it – every school should take the proper measures to ensure great safety.

Installing computer and network security can drastically help in the protection of these schools. Setting up paging systems can help if there ever comes a time that you need to reach someone who is somewhere else in the school. This is a quick and easy way to communicate with others when a trying situation presents itself. Another positive aspect of these paging systems is that they are wireless. This means that messages can be delivered to staff no matter where they are. It can even spread to parking lots and athletic fields.

It is an upsetting thought that the safety of our schools has been challenged, forcing us to take certain forms of protection such as metal detectors, police officers or alarm systems, in order to feel comfortable again. However, these precautions are taken in the best interest of the students and have drastically improved the overall safety of schools around the world.

Voice Pagers Help Keep Us Safe

Pagers are far too often considered a technology of the past, by the general public. When people educate themselves on voice pagers and other pagers, they realize just how relevant pager technology still is today and will be going into the future. Paging systems are often used to ensure the safety of the general public. In night clubs, where cell phone reception can’t be trusted, paging systems can alert security instantaneously of any problem. In hospitals where cell phones can prove dangerous to vital medical equipment, safe paging systems are used among the hospital staff. In fact, voice pagers are used to help save the lives of people outside of hospitals each and every day, too.

Brave service workers like firemen, rescue workers, and emergency medical services, use voice pagers to alert each other when their services are need. When there is an automobile accident or a house on fire, or when any other emergency arises, time is of the absolute essence. Voice pagers ensure that anyone in danger is able to receive help in as quick and efficient a manner as possible. Despite, what you may have heard in holiday commercials which shove the idea of flawless wireless coverage all over the globe, voice pagers can be trusted to instantly alert emergency services, to the scene of the crisis.

Whether you work or volunteer to provide emergency services. Trust our selection of paging systems to help you help others. We are proud of our paging systems and the amazing services they help provide. We only offer the best wireless paging systems, which will help save lives, when used by emergency personnel. It can be a fire, an accident, or a brawl in a night club, but when a crisis arises, wireless paging systems are used to get the proper professionals in place to ensure public safety.

Modern Paging Systems

Paging systems kind of seem like a technology of the past, don’t they? With cell phones, who needs a numeric pager these days? However, while teens, and even adults, frantically text each other on cell phones, there are some instances where cell phones, believe it or not, are less effective than paging systems.

If you’ve browsed through our site, you know hospitals are one of our biggest customers. Cell phones can interfere with other, more critical, equipment. So, they use a paging system. But that’s kind of obvious. Paging, Dr. Common Sense.

However, aside from hospitals, modern paging systems have also proved effective in a few other fields.

Night Clubs

Most night clubs are dark, crowded, alcohol-infused frenzies. And, amidst the jam-packed dance floor and bars, bouncers are expected to navigate and maintain order. If you’ve ever been in a night club, you know it’s difficult to simply talk to the person next to you. Now, imagine trying to get the attention of someone across the club because you need assistance. Paging systems with a locating feature and group messaging can make a security detail’s job considerably easier.

Shopping Malls

Shopping malls are similar to night clubs. Well, there aren’t as many strobe lights and alcoholic beverages. But they’re big venues that are patrolled by a limited number of workers. Paging systems, however, can alert security and store staffs about disturbances, shoplifters, evacuations, and more.

Stadiums & Resorts

Paging systems don’t have to only be associated with wrong-doings and unfortunate accidents. Sometimes it can simply be used to enhance a fun time. When at an event or kicking back at a resort, food and beverage requests can be made pagers to the wait staff, providing location and name of guest requesting service. In this situation, you can still use the technology to boost security, but you can also enhance the efficiency of your business.

Church Paging Systems

It’s never pleasant. To see a once-cute baby transform into a demonic banshee. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration. But, we’ve all been in a position where a crying baby has made the situation uncomfortable for all parties. Whether you’re the parent or an innocent bystander, being around a crying baby is far from pleasant. And, it’s especially unpleasant when you’re in a reverent setting like church. Between a wailing baby and that toddler who just rammed his Hot Wheels into your foot for the sixth time, you might find yourself questioning that whole forgiveness thing. So, God bless daycare, right?

These days, most churches offer some sort of daycare. However, as you probably know, just because you put your child in daycare doesn’t mean they’ll behave much better. Aside from some religious teachings, a church daycare isn’t much different from any other daycare. Parents still want to be kept in the loop and know what’s going on. If their child gets sick, they want to be reached. If their child is terrorizing teachers and other children, they want to be informed. But, a worker shuffling through the middle of church to whisper into the ear of a parent can be just as disrupting as a crying baby.

This is where technology and religion meet. A number of churches are now using wireless paging systems for their daycare. This allows for parents to be silently kept in the loop. These church paging systems operate like any other wireless paging system. They’re similar to receiving a pager when you’re asked to wait at a restaurant. Parents are given a small pager they can tuck into their pocket, and if a problem or issue should arise, they can be notified discretely. This saves a parent much embarrassment while also sparing the congregation of disruption. Furthermore, it also provides a sense of safety. A parent knows that if anything were to happen to their child, they can be notified immediately. It’s not every day that technology and the church get a long, but in this case, church paging systems seem to work for all parties concerned.

TTI Guardian

At Turn-Key Technologies, our emphasis is directed towards Healthcare, Department of Defense, State and Local Government, and Manufacturing where time critical communications are essential. And our products are designed for just these areas. Our latest addition to our product line has been the TTI Guardian, a wireless duress and emergency notification system that incorporates personal duress alarms, mass notifications, acknowledged paging and man-down or no-movement alarms. The TTI Guardian has potential to drastically improve your working environment.

Let’s start off with an anecdote. Carl Jones works the night shift on a lightly-manned security detail at a local power plant. Just like every other night, Carl strolls down the desolate hallways on his 2 AM perimeter check. As he rounds a corner, he feels a sharp pain shoot up his arm. Carl quickly realizes he’s having a heart attack, but the excruciating pain causes him to collapse to the floor before he can call for help. Carl lies on floor unconscious for nearly 45 minutes before his co-workers realize something is wrong and find him.

Granted, this isn’t the most uplifting anecdote, but it sheds light on the dangers lone workers can encounter. However, we're working to improve the safety of lone workers with paging alarm systems.

The Guardian has a lone worker feature. When working by yourself, such as in Carl’s scenario, the Guardian allows you to activate a no-response feature. When activated, the no-response feature sends periodic alerts that require an acknowledgment from the worker. Once two consecutive alerts are missed, the Guardian sends out an alert to all other pagers on the network with information on who is not responding and where they are.

Safety is not just limited to lone workers, though. The Guardian’s system is being utilized in hospital paging systems, RFID systems, schools, courtrooms, detention centers, etc. Alerts and messages can be sent instantaneously across the network informing others of potential danger and the location of that danger. While stories such as Carl’s are frightening, it’s good to see people are taking the right steps towards taking care of one another.

Sleep Like A Baby With New Security Advancements

Feeling safe in your own home is something not to be toyed with. Many people these days are installing security systems in order to feel as safe as they possibly can. It doesn’t matter whether you live in a busy city area or in the mountains somewhere because break-ins can happen at anytime, anywhere. Taking the proper precautions in keeping you and your family safe is a crucial step in having a home and keeping it secure.

Home security systems have now gone wireless making it easier for the home owner to install it. They have exceptional range and some can communicate over hundreds of feet which is great for people who own large amounts of land. Not only do these security systems have a wide range signal but they can also infiltrate through walls and materials such as granite or marble. Older security systems would not have been able to take on such a task.

A per k to this new wave of security is that the wireless systems do not work on home phone lines, but actual cellular signals. This upgrade from traditional security systems is an advantage because if the phone lines are down, the wireless system can still send out signals. Also, wireless systems work on batteries rather than the power from your house, which allows them to stand the test of time even when your power is out. Investing in these new wireless safety devices is money well spent and will keep you and your family as safe as can be.

Benefits of RTLS in Hospitals

Hospitals might be the most chaotic buildings on earth. Some people are cut open. Others are sewn back up. Some breathe their first breath. Others breathe their last. And, all this can happen in the matter of a few minutes. Nurses and doctors bounce around those hallways like they’re stuck in a pinball machine. And, amidst all this chaos, they’re supposed to perform live-or-die tasks. While it seems like doctors will always be kicking water uphill against the downpour of life’s disasters, technology has been a friend. Turn-Key Technologies realizes that those individuals working in the healthcare field need all the help they can get. By implementing real time locating systems (RTLS), hospitals are operating at a much more efficient level.

A real time locating system is exactly what it sounds like. By using radio frequency, you’re able to locate anything emitting a signal in real time. You can have real time updates on which doctors are in surgery and which ones are in the coffee shop without having to page them. In addition to knowing the whereabouts of your own personnel, you can also locate any patient. Patients can wander or be placed in the wrong room from time to time, but now you know whenever someone is on the move. Furthermore, you can also know the exact location of any hospital equipment. Basically, the system acts like big brother—the eye in the sky. And, in a world that can produce unyielding chaos, it doesn’t hurt to have someone watching over you.

Wireless LAN Basics

A wireless local area network, or Wireless LAN, is used to link devices like laptops and game systems via a wireless distribution method. It typically provides a connection to the Internet through an access point, giving users the mobility to move around within a local coverage area and still be connected to the network.

Wireless LAN as experienced an increased popularity in both the residential and commercial markets. Homeowners can use their laptop computers in any room of their house instead of just a plugged in location. Businesses like coffee shops and restaurants are offering wireless access to their customers so they can work or get online while in the location. And, large cities are turning their entire borough into a wirelessly accessed network so residents can access the web from the park or any location they choose.

Benefits of Wireless LAN include mobility, range of coverage, ease of use, straightforward installation, flexibility, simplicity, and low cost.

Turn-Key Technologies offers two options in wireless LAN, Aruba Networks and Meru Networks.

Check out the features and benefits of each below...

School Safety

School safety has become a major concern over the years. Tragic events like Columbine and the 911 terrorist attacks demonstrate why our schools need to be prepared for emergency situations.

The National School Safety Center has a number of resources to help schools prepare themselves and develop a safety plan. One article that I found very informative is titled "Schools and Readiness". The article explains why schools need to be ready for an emergency and how they can go about developing a plan.

The relevance to Turn-Key Technologies comes in the way that the company can help schools prepare themselves. Turn-Key offers a number of wireless security solutions including the TTI Guardian, a wireless duress and emergency notification system that incorporates personal duress alarms, mass notifications, acknowledged paging and man-down or no-movement alarms. Schools using the TTI Guardian provide an extra layer of safety, which creates an unmeasurable amount of value to their education system.

Emergency Situations Require Ekahau RTLS

When an emergency arises, knowing the whereabouts of the necessary equipment and people to save the situation is key to a successful outcome. The situation could be in a hospital emergency room where a resuscitation device is needed immediately or it could be at an information technology center where a system guru must be located to avoid a complete meltdown. Either way, proper technology to find the needed resource is as important as life or death.

This is where RFID and RTLS come into play. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) works hand in hand with a RTLS (Real Time Locating System) to track and identify objects, equipment or people, in real time location. The RFID is a tag applied to the object that has the capability of being tracked through radio waves. Once a tag is applied to an object, a RTLS is installed to collect information on the location of the RFID tags. For example, if a heart surgeon carrying a RFID tag needs to be located immediately, the RTLS can determine his or her whereabouts and report the location to the team trying to track him down.

Turn-Key Technologies has excelled in the industry by creating a Wi-Fi Based RFID/RTLS product called Ekahau RTLS. The product can operate on any Wi-Fi network with no readers, cables, choke-points, or exciters.
